

In 1984 the Guinness Book of Records described Sir Ranulph Fiennes as the “World’s Greatest Living Explorer”.
His expeditions around the world include the world’s first surface journey around the world’s polar axis, the Ubar Expedition which discovered Ptolemy’s long-lost Atlantis of the Sands, the first unsupported crossing of the Antarctic Continent and the longest unsupported polar journey in history.
He has been awarded the Sultan of Oman’s Bravery Medal, the Explorers Club of New York Medal, the Royal Scottish Geographical Society’s Livingstone Gold Medal, the Royal Geographical Society’s Founder’s Medal, and both he and his late wife received the Polar Medal. He has led 22 major expeditions to remote parts of the world including both Poles.
To date, Sir Ranulph has, through his expeditions, raised over £14.2 million for UK charities. In 1993 he was awarded an OBE for “human endeavour and charitable services”.
He is the author of 18 books including best seller The Feather Men, released in 2011 as a major motion picture (‘Killer Elite’), a best-selling biography of Captain Scott and his autobiography Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know. His latest book My Heroes was published in 2011.
